Support place-based education by donating to Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.
Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative (GLSI) invests in the future of communities, the environment, and the Great Lakes region through education. Each year, GLSI’s central organization and network of community-based hubs deliver robust place-based education professional development to hundreds of classroom teachers and community partners, disseminate tens of thousands of dollars to schools and community organizations for local stewardship action projects, and support thousands of K-12 students venturing beyond the classroom as they apply their growing knowledge and skills to help their community and local environment thrive.
Your tax-deductible gift supports our efforts to inspire students, expand classrooms, strengthen communities, and protect natural resources right here and right now. With a single donation, you can generate so much good.
“I wouldn’t have made it through the pandemic years without the support of my GLSI Hub.
The opportunities and support for continuing to get students outside and experiencing their communities at the height of the pandemic meant everything to me.
And the past couple of years of getting back to full place-based stewardship education projects with my students keeps reminding me of why I love and value being a teacher.
My connection to GLSI is why I am still a teacher today.”
“I loved the community feeling at the conference. Even though there were over 300 participants, the conference had a ‘summer camp’ feeling where everyone was supportive and hugs and high fives were the norm. As a biologist and educator, I loved the balance of analytical science presentations with common sense nuts and bolts presentations with ‘how to’ approaches in PBE. I came away from the conference with renewed vigor that place-based education has deep roots in Michigan, shown by the attendance of participants from around the world and around our nation.”
“This was an exceptionally well thought out and organized course. It really helped me contextualize and organize the complexity of this work in a way that will be easy to share with teachers who are new to this work.”
“I really enjoyed the chance to go through the planning templates, rubrics, and case studies to both see ideas about what others have done, and to see where my efforts have measured up. It’s helped to identify missing elements that could really have gone a long way in past projects, and gives more insight for planning future projects.”
