GSI: Scan the Community with a Native Plant Lens

October 16 @ 4:30 pm6:30 pm

This October Professional Learning Opportunity will engage participants in environmental and community inventories with place-based stewardship education. Educators will be introduced to the concept of scanning the community through the approach of biodiversity and native plants in your space. Together with your peers, you will:

  • Discover different ways to conduct a community scan
  • Explore the Calvin University Ecosystem Preserve and Native Gardens with their team in a guided walk/community scan
  • Visit an active project worksite on Calvin’s campus managed by the Plaster Creek Stewards that aims to address stormwater runoff from the parking lot that impacts the surrounding natural space
  • Draw connections from native plants to watershed impacts
  • Discuss best practices of natural space exploration with students, addressing potential barriers, and setting educators up for effective outdoor learning

SCECH credits available: 2

You can RSVP for this event.

These PLO events are open to any educators interested in learning more about Groundswell, those who are actively working on their student projects already, or those looking to learn more about researching environmental and community issues!
